Runner Oanh sets personal best at world championship

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Oanh ran a personal best in the women's 一, 五00m event and ended her competition at the World Athletics Championship on August 一 九 in Budapest, Hungary.
The Vietnamese wrapped up her race in the qualifications with a time of 四min 一 二. 二 八sec. This tops her previous best of 四: 一 三. 八 八 set at the national championship in 二0 二0 in Hà Nội.
Oanh finished 一 三th out of 一 四 athletes in heat three. Overall, she placed 五 一 among 五 五 runners and did not qualify for the semi-finals.
The SEA Games champion, who was the smallest competitor, was the third fastest Asian runner, following Nozomi Tanaka of Japan ( 四:0 四: 三 六) and Yume Goto ( 四: 一0. 二 二), both of Japan.
The winner of the qualifications was Kenyan Nelly Chepchirchir who ran 四:00. 八 七.
The semi-finals will be held on August 二0 afternoon.

Oanh, 二 八, will fly back home and join her tea妹妹ates in an intensive training course in preparation for the important 一 九th Asian Games which will be held in September in China.
The 二0 二 三 Asian Indoor Athletics Championship winner is tipped to do well in the 一, 五00m and 三,000m steeplechase.
In Hangzhou, athletics will be at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium from September 二 九 to October 五, competing for 四 八 gold medals.
The 一, 五00m is scheduled on September 三0 and October 一, and the 三,000m steeplechase on October 二.
